NVizcaya agri office urges farmers to turn farmlots into agribusiness venture

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – The Provincial Agriculture Office(PAO) here has urged farmers in the province to maximize their farmlots and turn them into a thriving agri-business to improve their income.

Alex Domingo, supervising agriculturist and Nueva Vizcaya Farmers Information and Technology Service(NVFITS) manager said farmers should practice the Community-based Participatory Action Research (CPAR) program which aims to speed-up the utilization of farming technologies, maximizing its potentials and turn them into an economic enterprise.

“Usually, farmers do not study the potentials of their farmlots. They do not know that by fully harnessing and maximizing its potentials, they can turn them into a thriving business venture,” Domingo explained.

CPAR while it is not a new program, he added aims to satisfy the kitchen and its excess .. to the market.

He cited that a corn lot for example should also be a venue for the production of other vegetables, livestock and fish supply.

“In this way, we can earn more income from utilizing fully our farmlots,” he stressed.

According to Domingo, CPAR in the province is being implemented in the towns of Dupax del Sur and Quezon to increase corn production in the area which is supported by the national government through the Department of Agriculture(DA)-Bureau of Agricultural Research(BAR).

The CPAR areas, he said is being funded this year for P.6 million each while the provincial government provides technical support to ensure the success of the program.

Domingo said Cagayan Valley has a total of 10 CPAR areas distributed in Cagayan – 3, Isabela-3, Nueva Vizcaya – 2, Quirino-1 and Batanes-1.

Domingo also expressed optimism that CPAR areas in Nueva Vizcaya will increase this year because of the ongoing feasibility research being conducted by the OPAG and the result will be proposed for funding from the CPAR program. Ben Moses Ebreo, PIANV
